Prof. Dr. Ulrike Stadler-Altmann – AI2PI Co-Principal Investigator
Chair of School Pedagogy at Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. Main areas of work: Education in the culture of digitality, in particular the design of innovative learning environments; professionalization processes for teachers; circular theory-practice transfer and questions relating to knowledge generation in educational science.
Dr. Michael Schlauch – AI2PI Co-Principal Investigator
Developed and led the successful Erasmus+ grant application for AI2PI. Senior Researcher working at the intersection of design-based research, critical EdTech studies, and teacher professional development. Main areas of research: AI literacy in teacher education; participatory approaches to emerging technologies in schools; game-based learning and interactive digital storytelling; inclusive instructional design and new literacies as social practices.

Dr. Ole Engel – Senior Researcher, WP1&7 Co-Lead
Main areas of work: Digital teaching and learning methods; AI integration in teacher education and schooling; critical and responsible use of AI in educational practice. His research approach combines qualitative, quantitative, and experimental studies to advance research-based teacher professional development. Currently Interim Professor for Sustainability and School Development.
André Doßmann – Student Research Assistant
Studying Philosophy/Ethics and History at Humboldt University of Berlin. Regional spokesperson for the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes. His path to higher education includes professional experience in nursing and forensic psychiatry, while his research interests include the ethical and societal dimensions of AI usage.

Prof. Dr. Mirjamaija Mikkilä-Erdmann – WP2 Lead
Prof. Dr. Mirjamaija Mikkilä-Erdmann is Professor of Teacher Education and an internationally recognized scholar in learning research. She currently leads the FINSci consortium project (Academy of Finland) and the Read2Learn project (Business Finland). Her R&D work focuses on students’ future skills and research-based professional development for teachers and school leaders. She is Academic Director of FinTED, Vice Director of the Finnish Teacher Education Forum, and leads the Innovative Digital Pedagogy group within EC2U.
Norbert Erdmann – Senior Researcher
Norbert Erdmann is working as a project researcher in the Department of Teacher education at the University of Turku. He has master's degrees in organization and management, educational science and is a qualified classroom teacher in Finland. He has versatile experiences in the field of technology and education.
Sanni Janocko – Researcher
Sanni Janocko is a primary school and civics teacher from Raisio, Finland. She joined the AI2PI project in summer 2025 together Irina Yevstihnyeyev. Apart from her research role, she works in preparatory education for immigrant children, supporting them in acquiring the language skills needed to enter basic education in Finland. In the long run, she aims to contribute to the improvement of Finnish primary schools and to take on administrative responsibilities in education within her municipality.
Irina Yevstihnyeyev – Research Assistant
Irina Yevstihnyeyev is a Research Assistant at the University of Turku. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Education and will complete her Master's degree in spring 2026, specialising in class teacher education with a focus on special education. In her role, she supports research activities and contributes to data analysis. Alongside her research assistantship, she is completing her teacher training and gaining professional experience in Finnish schools.

Susanne Schumacher – WP3 Lead
Susanne Schumacher - Postdoctoral Researcher at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. Her research is centred on the exploration of multimedia-supported educational environments in early childhood education and primary education, with a particular emphasis on the in-depth investigation of interactions within and in relation to these environments. The research encompasses studies that primarily engage with the qualitative analysis of learning processes and the development of teaching units for the professionalisation of educators.
Daniele Morselli
Daniele Morselli is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Education, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. His research centres on entrepreneurship education, learning theories, and teacher training, informed by international experience including Marie Skłodowska-Curie and Fulbright fellowships. He brings extensive involvement in European projects to his work within AI2PI.

Dr. Cristina Sylla – WP4 Project Manager
Cristina Sylla is a Principal Researcher at the University of Minho. She has wide experience as project leader. Her research focuses on the design, development and evaluation of innovative pedagogical materials, focusing on the intersection of traditional games and playful activities and the new interactive technological solutions, fostering young children’s experimental, participatory and active involvement.
Prof. Dr. Diana Pereira – Researcher
PhD researcher under the Scientific Employment Stimulus Programme at the University of Minho. She completed her postdoctoral studies in Educational Sciences in 2019 and holds a PhD in Educational Sciences – Curriculum Development (2016), awarded as a European Doctorate in collaboration with Mälardalen University, Sweden. She is a full member of the Research Centre on Child Studies (CIEC). Her research interests include assessment, teaching and learning processes, curriculum development, educational leadership, educational policies and higher education.
Dr. Orlanda Tavares – Researcher
Orlanda Tavares is an Assistant Researcher at the Research Centre on Child Studies, Institute of Education, University of Minho, Portugal. She holds a PhD in Educational Sciences from the University of Porto. Her research focuses on educational policies, social equity and teacher education. She has participated in national and international research projects and published in leading international journals.
Dr. Eva Fernandes – Researcher
Dr. Eva Fernandes is a researcher at the Research Centre on Child Studies, University of Minho. She holds a PhD in Educational Sciences with a specialisation in Curriculum Development. Her research interests include curricular studies, assessment, teacher education, teachers’ work and professional development, pupil voice, and educational leadership.
Dr. Silvia Nunes – Research Fellow
Research fellow at CIEC at the University of Minho (Master’s-level scholarship) and PhD in Educational Sciences (Sociology of Education and Educational Policies). She has advanced training in digital competences, AI in education, explainable AI, immersive technologies (XR), ethics and digital well-being. Her research interests focus on education, cultural/digital innovation, adult education and community intervention.
Mariana Cardial – Research Fellow
Research Fellow at the University of Minho, working on the AI2PI Erasmus+ Teacher Academy project. Product and Graphic Designer with experience in digital communication, UI/UX and design systems. She holds a BA in Graphic Design and has contributed to international projects involving web platforms, visual identity and user-centred design. Her work focuses on accessible digital experiences, information hierarchy and visual communication supporting education, research dissemination and collaborative learning environments.

Prof. Dr. Julia Festman – WP5 Co-Lead
Full Professor of Multilingualism at University College of Teacher Education Tyrol. Her research covers a wide range of disciplines, from neuroscience and psychology to psycholinguistics and educational research. Her key interest lies in language/s, how children and adults acquire, use, teach and process language/s, in educational and more recently, when using AI.
Dr. Sonja Brunsmeier – WP5 Project Coordination
Dr. Sonja Brunsmeier coordinates the Austrian consortium of the AI2PI Teacher Academy. In this project her current research focuses on language teaching, AI literacy and teacher education. Before joining the AI2PI-Project she was professor at different German universities. She holds a PhD in Teaching and Learning English as a Foreign Language. Sonja Brunsmeier also was headmistress of a primary school and worked as a primary and secondary school teacher.
Prof. Dr. Simone Baumann
Simone Baumann is Professor at the University College of Teacher Education Tyrol and an educational researcher with a PhD in Applied Linguistics (English). Her research focuses on teacher professionalization, design-based research, and qualitative and mixed methods. Her interests include reflection and meta-reflexivity in teacher education, as well as cognitive activation and language-sensitive, task-based learning aimed at developing empirically grounded approaches to higher education professionalization.
Prof. Dr. Tim Lutz
Tim Lutz develops interactive educational tools at the intersection of augmented reality, machine learning, and didactics at the University College of Teacher Education Tyrol. His work ranges from AR-based 3D learning environments to ML-powered classroom applications, all designed and built for direct use in teaching. A portfolio of his tools can be found at

Prof. Dr. Reinhold Madritsch
He teaches "Primary Education", "Information and Communication", and "Specialisation in Media Pedagogy" at PHT and LFU Innsbruck. His main areas of work are: Media practice and media didactics. Related project: Erasmus+ 'Digital Storytelling as a Method of Teaching in Primary Education' with Gordon Academic College, Haifa.
Anita Konrad (Mag.a)
Anita Konrad (Mag.a) graduated from the University of Innsbruck in Comparative Literature and German Studies. She is a lecturer in German and Multilingualism (primary level) and Quality Assurance Officer at the University of Education Tyrol (PHT). Her teaching and research interests include literacy, reading acquisition and promotion, and issues of heterogeneity, diversity, and inequality in school contexts. Prof. Dr. Lina Kaminskienė – WP6 Project Manager
Prof. Dr. Lina Kaminskienė has worked in education since 1998 and is Chancellor of the Education Academy (since 2020). Her research focuses on educational innovation, self-regulated and personalized learning, and teacher education. She has coordinated over 20 national and international projects (Erasmus, Horizon, Interreg), authored 100+ scientific articles and 5 monographs, and serves on several international journal editorial boards.
Dr. Vaida Jurgilė
Associate Professor at the Education Academy of Vytautas Magnus University and researcher at the Educational Research Institute. She is Head of the Bachelor’s program in Subject Pedagogy and, since 2022, Editor-in-Chief of the journal Pedagogy. Her research focuses on educational leadership, teacher expertise and competence development in higher education, and teaching–learning processes studied through eye-tracking. She is a member of EARLI.
Kateryna Horlenko – Researcher
Kateryna Horlenko is a researcher and PhD candidate at Education Academy, Vytautas Magnus University (Lithuania). Her research interests include teacher competence development, support of student self-regulated learning, and application of eye tracking in research on teaching and learning.

Prof. Dr. Maria Rönnlund
Prof. Dr. Maria Rönnlund is an educational researcher at Umeå University, specialising in spatial and material perspectives on teaching and learning across early childhood, primary, and secondary education. Her work examines how the design of physical and digital learning spaces shapes pedagogical practices — a line of research she has previously pursued in collaboration with colleagues across the AI2PI consortium.
Alex Örtegren
Alex’ research is primarily situated at the intersection of teacher education, democratic education, and digital technologies. A key focus is teacher educators' preparation of new teachers to teach for democracy in relation to digital technologies, such as fake news and AI. Examples of areas of interest are postdigital theory, teacher educators' profession-specific digital competence, and how their competence ultimately can support young people's democratic participation, for example when it comes to AI literacy.

Dr. Insa Reichow – Senior Learning Scientist
Dr. Insa Reichow is an educational scientist and works as a postdoctoral researcher in the research unit “Research on Schools and Instruction” at the University of Potsdam. She uses large language models to research motivational language used by teachers in mathematics lessons. As a member of the Educational Technology Lab at the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), she explores the potential and limitations of AI-based educational technologies in various educational contexts.
